Chrysalis Foundation
The Cozumel Chrysalis Group is a non-profit organization that helps children to receive an education. There are many families in Cozumel who lack the financial ability to send their children to public school. Chrysalis assists students who desire to better their lives through education. Mexican public school students are required to pay fees for registration and special exams in addition to providing their own uniforms, classroom supplies and some books. The scholastic financial support and materials provided by Chrysalis directly benefit the students allowing them to focus on learning and achieving their potential.
Offers ambulance and medical services to those in need. Extremely worthy organization, dedicated to bettering the lives of Cozumel inhabitants. April is their monthly fund drive, and their Annual Casino Night is not to be missed. http://www.cruzrojacozumel.org/
Cozumel Humane Society
A 100% donation animal shelter that offers free spay/neuter clincs and runs mostly on volunteers. Twice a year, the Cozumel Humane Society hosts fundraisers, the Annual Art Auction in the Spring and the Giant Christmas Party, with a buffet and dancing. http://www.humanecozumel.org/
Ferries
Iron Team L’Aak - Iron Team “L’Aak” consists of 15 triathletes representing Quintana Roo, 11 team members are from Cancun and 4 from Cozumel. The Cozumel team members are: Adolfo Castillo, who completed the race in only 12:29, Hugo Rodriguez, who finished in 13:35, Andre de Fernex, with a time of 14:31, Irma Portilla, who came in at 14:50 and Nelly Becerra, who, completed the swim and bike portions, but didn’t finish the marathon part due to an injury. SEA – Spanish English Academy
The SEA – Spanish English Academy has both English and Spanish classes and they are always looking for volunteers, on a drop in basis, so their students can listen to native English speakers. It’s super informal, and a great way to help out island kids. For more information, contact Matthew at
